Inspired by the untouched enduring natural beauty of Melides and its surrounds, and the rich history of Azulejo art, we are delighted to introduce the Hester Bly 2023 collection
Characterised by sleepy fishing villages, dramatic sandstone cliffs overlooking wild Atlantic beaches and rich in diverse landscapes; from rolling vineyards, lush rice fields and dense pine forests, this stretch of coast is a haven of tranquillity.
The clean white stones and myriad of blues, yellows, browns of the local fishing homes and Alentejan architecture inspired the Melides style colour palette, whilst the earthy greens, rich reds and pinks of the collection were inspired by the Azulejo ceramic tiles which have decorated Portuguese buildings from the humblest of homes to grand palaces since the 13th century.
The timeless, natural elegant beauty of Melides evokes a feeling of “saudade”, a Portuguese word for a longing or yearning for a life of simplicity that has passed, as well as a feeling of inspiration reflecting upon its history of continual creative and adaptation throughout the centuries caused by the forces of nature.
